Chris's protrait

Chris's Protrait is now done.

Here are the process

First, Hair. Color with shades, after i done with the right side, Flip over the image and do the other side so it's easier to draw at the same time easier to find out if there's any problems during the process.

During coloring the hair, did some clean up at the same time so it's easier to find out exactly where the color should go.

While cleaning up and coloring the hair, did some side fix such as the shadow, clean up and some coloring for small details like ears.

Finished the eyes, and then some more shading for the whole face.

After the clothing, the character is now nearly done.

Effects added, and now it's finished.

Next, Coming up with the Design of Epoh

Coloring Update

Coloring Process for Chris

First, begin with face. Put basic skin pink all over, and then add shading.

And now to the eyes after some fixing of the skin tone. but then some reasons the eyes looks really fake and dead. Talked to one of my mate, and found out that there was some problem with the eyes on the right. it's not balanced with the other eye, and most importantly, they don't looks like eyes.

So I wipe the old eyes out, and put on a new pair of eyes for this young man. They look so much better, but yet problems are still there! According to my mate's advice, It's our brain playing tricks, so two eyes are not balancing, the only way to fix it now is to trick the brain back.

Flip the image to find out what's the problem. After the flip, if the image still feel weird or weirder, then the problem can be easily seen.

Another try, and they look so much better than all the ones before. But come back with comments that now he looks like some sort of pussy boy. Or...Those eyes are too cute...

And now comes to the final eyes that got a very good comment back, and doesn't look as "pussy"

The coloring so far, with hair and few small fix.

The next update will be the finishing work with records.

Chris's Creation

So, Time is running, and I won't say that I don't have enough to do but it still kinda tight for me.

The way I do the character design, I will first drew a picture of their protrait so people get the idea what the chatacter will looks like in a close up shot; then I will work on different view and different facial expression of the character; after that will be full body with back, side view of the character; finally will be one or two complete art work of the chatacter with the background. All of them will be colored.

I will draw the designs on paper first, then they will be import into computer, outline in photoshop and color by using photoshop and painter.

Because the script I linked before didn't have any characters infomation, So I will write down some basic information of the character when i post them.

So

Here is Chris

Name: Chris
Age: 19
Sex: Male
Height: 175CM
Weight: 70KG

Below is the sketch of what his body type going to be and looks like

Creating Steps

1. Sketch on paper and scan it in to the computer

2.Using the sketch to outline the character. Begin with face

3. Hair and clothing. During the outline process, there were few places that doesn't feel right and got changed so the character look more natural and less weird.

4. Show both the new outline and the sketch to see if there's anywhere need to be change or anywhere that is not good enough

5.Finally adjust it, clean it up and change the places that needs to be changed.

And now I can go ahead and color the character.

Ideas

Got my Halo reach on monday, and the limited Edition come with something really cool which gave me some ideas what my major project should looks like at the final stage.

This is the book that come with the box.

Inside the book are some information that are related with the game.

Although the text are related to the game that make this book feels like something off the game's world, but the sketches on it are actually some designs for the game, with the explaintions, the players can get some ideas off it so they get to know more about how things work.

These are other stuffs came with the book. Some photo, a map, some cut out from news paper, some reports.

Characters' profile folder.

The collection of this game gave me some new ideas what my project should feels like, looks like.

I think i may change my project a bit. Instead of just a book of explaining how things work and looks like with some art work, I may make a "file book" that feels like something off the movie's world. For example, because the story's character Chris and Epoh are most wanted in the afterlife world, so the government make a folder of their profile. So I can make that folder, and then make their indivisual profile, after that I can make some "screen shot" of them apear in different places pretending the pictures were took by "hidden cameras". and I will also make some items design and draw some landscape to put into that folder as "reference materials".

Some Sketches

Haven't Update for a while, been very sick :-/

But here are some updates about the project. I have done some sketches for one of the main character, Chris.
You can see the example idea for Chris's body from the first picture. Although the front view is not doing very good as i was using ball point pen to drew them.
Chris's Body sketch

And then here are some facial selections for Chris. In the story, Chris is an 18 years old Caucasian. So he should looks more teenager-ish. You will see some writings next to the heads, the ones that saids "Maybe" will get to try out in some actual drawings. Which one do you think I should use? By the way, The heads are in different style, in fact, at this stage, it's more like choosing the style of the character first.

Main Character--Chris's style/first look selection
There will be more updates coming in the next few days.

Reference pictures hunt

Before i draw, I have to do a lots of pictures hunting for reference purposes.

The story is locate in N.Y.C, and the afterlife world will be pretty much the same as the living world's one except the colors are a bit different. So I went back to NY, went to central park and the top of the rock, walked around NYC for hours to collect some pics. By the way, I walked from the Union Square to the end of the Central park took me unknown hours, and totally walked 14 miles on that day... If you are going there, DON'T DO ANYTHING LIKE THIS unless you want to feel tired for the next 2 days.
